the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and
Rita, the U.S. Department of
Justice has asked the National Center for
Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC)
to staff a hotline to take reports of missing
children, missing adults, and found children.
If you are searching for
someone who is missing or are caring for
a child who is separated from his or her
family, please call the Katrina/Rita
Missing Persons Hotline at 1-888-544-5475.

Since noon 9/5/2005, the "Katrina/Rita Missing Persons Hotline" (1-888-544-5475)
has operated
from 8:00am ET to midnight ET, staffed by up to 40 former law enforcement members
of NCMEC's
Team ADAM and Project ALERT. Service folded into normal 800 service below on
10/11/2005.
In 36 days of operation, the special Hotline has received 20,932 calls (with
430 abandoned calls).
Since 9/1/2005, the NCMEC Call Center (1-800-The-Lost) has received 9,952 calls
(with 52 Rita).
TOTAL CALLS FOR SERVICE = 30,884 calls.

Louisiana - 4,296 children -- 2,397 are resolved
Mississippi - 329 children -- 262 are resolved
Alabama - 39 children -- 29 are resolved
TOTAL Children = 4,664 children -- 2,688 are resolved (58%). (Katrina)

Louisiana - 26 children -- 9 are resolved
Texas - 62 children -- 42 are resolved
TOTAL Children = 88 children -- 51 are resolved (58%). (Rita)

TOTAL Adults reported missing = 12,458 adults. All Adult cases are referred to
NCMA for case handling.
Total Adult cases resolved at NCMA in 35 days of operation = 5,305 (43%).

(On average the site receives 1 million hits per day.)
DEPLOYMENTS:
Total NCMEC Team ADAM consultants deployed to various field sites in the states
affected = 20.

cases = 15.
